Wappu is tradition celebration in Finland which takes place on the 1st of May. This day is important for university students and it’s a big get-together day for them. Despite Wappu being celebrated remotely this year, we at JHC decided to look into the archives and highlight some projects that could be handy around this time of the year.

Arabello
Wine bottling machine
Arabello is an electric wine bottling and corking machine for home use – created by avid wine maker Arttu Lassila. It was made purely because there was a need for such machine. According to the team behind Arabello, it helps to make the world a little bit better place.
“How this is linked to Wappu?” you might ask. This machine could obviously also be purposed for bottling Sima which is an important part of the May 1st festivities.

Sometimes you can find yourself in a tedious situation in which you have to open multiple bottles at once. This such an unpleasant problem was solved by LUT’s mechanical engineering guild KRK. They produced a bottle opener that fits a standard sized 24 x 0,33l bottle case.
Vappu picnic in Lappeenranta is held at the fortress. Getting to the fortress walls requires some walking and climbing uphill, which can be tiring when carrying everything that is needed for proper picnic. Does the solution for this problem lay in the hands of KRK?

What a creative and useful vehicle, especially during Wappu!
